Foothills Icelandics - Our Dogs
Auður Týra HIC, CGN, FD, FDCh, FDChS, FDChG, FDM, FDMX, - Agility Classes (Female, Birthdate Sept 10, 2002)
Týra was the first Icelandic to enter our hearts, she is a wonderful dog, full of amazing amounts of energy, always on the go. Like most Icelandics, she turns heads, and makes friends with everyone she meets. She is definitely a dog of achievements. She first received her herding instinct certificate in 2003, impressing the judge and spectators with her abilities to herd sheep four times her size, at only ten months of age. The following year we got her involved in the sport of Flyball. Týra was always a quick one to learn when it came to instruction, which made it easier for me since I had to also be trained, never having played Flyball before. The summer and fall of 2004 we trained on a weekly basis with a couple of other dogs from the Taliesin Kennel, a part of the CARS Flyball/Agility team. We quickly discovered that not only was Týra smart and fast, but also extremely agile because of her lightweight frame. By the following January we had moved to Calgary and joined up with one of Calgary's largest canine sporting groups, the Calgary Canine Centre. Now after our one year anniversary with this great club Týra, being the FIRST Icelandic Sheepdog to ever race in Flyball, usually races with the fastest CCC team as a height setter dog. I can say that Týra is arguably the fastest Icelandic in North America, having a recorded time in flyball of 5.26 seconds. If you are in Alberta and would like to meet her in person, she attends nearly all NAFA sanctioned flyball tournaments, so come out and cheer her on. We have started training her for NADAC agility as of the end of 2005, and hope to having her participating in some of the upcoming events.

CKC Champion Lavandels Vindur TN-N- Puppy Classes, Flyball (Male, Birthdate June 19, 2005)
Vindur is the newest addition to our family joining us in the summer of 2005. After Týra brought so much joy to our lives, another icelandic only seemed natural. Vindur is a solid structured, well built stud, with great proportion and girth. As an Icelandic male his personality differs from that of Týra's. Vindur tends to be very laid back and carefree, he loves the attention and will jump at every opportunity he gets to show you affection. Being very eager to please we have also had an easy time in training him. Vindur has passed his puppy classes in the fall of 2005, and has been practicing agility and flyball since the age of one. He has also participated in a number of conformation classes. Having received the first point every awarded to a CKC Icelandic Sheepdog, he now after a couple of season is the 3rd finished Icelandic Sheepdog in Canada, the first in Western Canada. His look is described as typical for the breed with well defined structure and a high tuck for that spitz-like appearance. As in 2007 Vindur was award 2nd place for show dogs in Canada, and received his first Agility title TN-N in NADAC. The video is located here.. Both of his parents came straight from Iceland, and his mother comes from a very rare bloodline (O Family), on his fathers side he carries a recessive chocolate, the dilute genes, and the tri-colored gene from his mother.
Hiemskauts Skella - Puppy Class, Agility Level 1 (Female, Birthdate May 5, 2007)
Skella joined our lives in 2007, traveling from Southern California to come live with us. She comes in our very busy times in our lives, with our new son only a couple of months old, and already a full compliment of four legged, fur bearing animals (2 cats as well), she adds a new dimension to our lives. Her personality is also unique from either of our other dogs. At first she was hesitant, and played a more independent role, showing she did care if we were around. By 6 months of age she is now the most affectionate of our dogs, always close by the heels (or on them) of my wife or I. We started training her early on in puppy classes and agility lessons (foundation work). She is a very handsome dog, with a face that would melt even the coldest of hearts.
